At Citizens Akron, we believe that our core beliefs and values should shape all that we are and do. We are a community of Christ followers, who are devoted to being the church, not only on Sunday, but in the everyday rhythms of life—where we live, work, and play. Our lived theology also informs our two primary structures: Villages and Celebration.
The gospel is central to all we do and all we are.
The good news of Jesus transforms, shapes, and propels us as a community.
The gospel calls us, as redeemed individuals, to live as the family of God.
We love all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, class, culture, or background, as Christ loves us.
The gospel calls us to engage in the mission of God by loving God with everything, and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
This includes proactively and reactively responding to mercy and justice issues in our communities.
We believe that every person is created in the image of God.
We fight for reconciliation, celebrate one another’s God-given cultural differences, and offer a space of unified belonging for all people.
We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead
He ascended to Heaven
and is seated at the right hand
of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge
the living and the dead
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
